Versioning of processing methods

Actions that update the method version

The version number is updated when you save a method that you have changed interactively. Interactive changes are any changes to the method parameters, such as compound names, integration events, or system suitability settings.

As long as you did not yet save a changed method, it is marked with a pencil icon in the method selector.

When you save a method that you have changed interactively, the following attributes are updated:

  • Version

  • Modified at

  • Modified by

  • For result set methods, an asterisk (*) is prepended. The asterisk indicates that the result set method was interactively modified after linking.

Actions that do not update the method version number

A processing method may be updated automatically during reprocessing, for example, due to an update of expected retention times. These updates occur without an explicit user interaction, and do therefore not affect the method version.

However, it is essential whether the method audit trail is activated or not. If activated, the method audit trail is saved as part of the method. Therefore, any action that adds an entry to the method audit trail updates the Modified at and Modified by attributes of the method.

Actions that add an entry to the method audit trail are, for example:

  • Adding a manual audit trail entry

  • Reviewing the audit trail

  • Changing the method status

  • Linking the method to an injection

  • Saving the method without changes

  • Automatic updates during reprocessing (see Automatic method updates)

These automatic updates of a processing method occur even if the user does not have the privilege to save the method interactively.
