Import ChemStation data format

You can import data from older ChemStation releases or other software that generates a compatible data format — even if the results are not yet saved in the ACAML format. In Data Analysis, you create a new result set from the old data files.

Supported software and versions:

  • OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition for GC/LC/CE/ADC, starting from B.01.01 or higher

  • OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition for LCMS, starting from B.04.01 or higher

BSB corrected files (Background Subtracted Baseline) are not supported.

  • MSD ChemStation for GCMS, starting from E.02.02 or higher

MSD Chemstation for GCMS offers two integrators, the ChemStation integrator and the RTE integrator. This specific ChemStation integrator returns area counts that are approximately ten times higher then ChemStation integrator in OpenLab CDS. The RTE integrator returns area counts consistent with OpenLab CDS.

  • MassHunter, starting from B.07.00 (MassHunter ChemStation data format)

MassHunter offers several integrators. All of them return area counts consistent with OpenLab CDS.

Prerequisites

To be able to carry out the procedure as described, you need the privileges Project Management > Edit content of project and Data > Import raw data. Privileges are configured in the Control Panel.

  1. In the Data Selection view: On the Import/Export ribbon tab, click Import Raw Data .

  2. A dialog opens in the local file system of your PC. Browse to the ChemStation data, and select the .D folders that you want to import. Hold the [Ctrl] or [Shift] key to select multiple items.

  3. In the Create New Result Set dialog, adjust the order of injections, or remove individual injections.

  4. Optionally, provide a processing method for the new result set. Check the name and location for the new result set.

  5. If you did not choose an existing processing method, the Create New Processing Method dialog opens. It allows you to create a new method. You can link the method to you data but do not process yet (Link only), link and process your data with the new method (Link and process), or create the new method without linking it to your data (No method).

Only injection parameters and raw data will be imported. Imported injection parameters include:

  • Sample name

  • Vial number

  • Replicate number

  • Operator

  • Instrument name

  • Injection date/time

  • Acquisition method name (if available)
