Baseline wanders

If an analysis shows a baseline that is not level but wanders (rises and falls), it is probably due to problems with the carrier gas. Check the following:

Note: These would probably create a fault condition in the GC that would prevent the GC from operating.

Insufficient carrier gas supply

Check the pressure of the carrier gas supply. It should be between 40 and 60 psi. It must be 10 - 15 psi greater than the pressure required by the Electronic Pneumatic Control (EPC) module.

Malfunctioning flow or pressure regulator

If the pressure of the carrier gas supply is correct, the EPC may not be working correctly. Contact your Agilent Technologies service representative.

Intermittent leak in the injection port

Check the injection port for leaks. See the documentation supplied with your GC for more information.
