Temperature (Modular LC Column Compartment)

The Temperature section allows you to set the temperature of the thermostatically-controlled column compartment. The column compartment contains two independently-heated column supports (Left and Right) that are also used to preheat the solvents.

HPLC columns are normally run at ambient temperature, although increased separation efficiency can be obtained at higher temperatures due to the lowering of viscosities and the corresponding increase of diffusion rates of solutes in the mobile and stationary phases.

The thermostat can only cool down to a temperature 10°C below the ambient temperature.

Left

Select the Not controlled option to deactivate the temperature control.

Select the middle option to control the temperature; enter the required temperature in the adjacent field.

Limits:

Select the As Detector cell option to set the temperature to the cell temperature of the configured detector. This option is available only when a detector with a temperature-controlled cell is configured. When more than one detector that supports this function is configured, select the detector that will control the temperature from the Temperature As Detector Cell section of the Column Compartment Control.

Right

By default, the right side of the column compartment is set to the same temperature as the left side of the column compartment, but it can be independently controlled. Using two identical columns connected in series but at different temperatures can increase the separation of closely-eluting components.

Select the Not controlled option to deactivate the temperature control.

Select the middle option to control the temperature; enter the required temperature in the adjacent field.

Limits:

Select the As Detector cell option to set the temperature to the cell temperature of the configured detector. Conditions are as for the Left section. Select the Combined option to set the right column compartment to the same temperature as the left side of the column compartment. This is the default setting.

If a method is loaded with As Detector cell selected, but the configured detector does not support this function, the temperature option is set to Not controlled.
