Create Cluster

This dialog box is displayed when the system detects modules that can be clustered (for example, multiple column compartments, multiple fraction collectors, or a pump and a solvent selection valve). The dialog box has two sections:

Cluster Options

The Cluster Options section shows the list of possible cluster types. All possible cluster types are listed, but only those that can be formed using the available modules are enabled.

Valve Thermostat Cluster

Select to create a cluster with one or more column compartment(s) and valve(s).

Valves for use in a Valve Thermostat Cluster can be installed either in a suitable Column Compartment or in an Agilent G1170A 1200 Infinity External Valve Drive.

Pump Valve Cluster

Select to create a cluster with one pump and up to two valves.

You can create a cluster with one Binary or Quaternary pump and up to two 12 position/13 port valves.

Fraction Collector II Cluster

Select to create a cluster with two or more Fraction Collector II modules.

Select the relevant topology in the Configuration dialog box.

Prep Pump Cluster

Select to create a cluster with two or more preparative pumps.

You can create binary (two pumps), ternary (three pumps) and quaternary (four pumps) clusters. Alternatively, with four pumps, you can create two binary clusters.

HDR DAD

Select to create a high-dynamic-range DAD cluster.

Two DADs with different flow cells can be clustered to allow for high-dynamic-range DAD applications.

Autoscale Cluster

Select to create a cluster with a preparative sampler and a G1170A Switching Valve to provide automatic switching between Analytical and Preparative operating modes.

An Autoscale Cluster can be included as part of a Fraction Collector II Cluster. The sequence of creation of the two clusters in not important (ASC > FCC or FCC > ASC).

Select the relevant topology in the Fraction Collector Configuration dialog box.

Column Comp Cluster (Legacy)

Select to create a column compartment cluster with two or more column compartments.

Note that this cluster is obsolete and available for backward compatibility only. Use the Valve Thermostat Cluster instead.

Fraction Collector Cluster (Legacy)

Select to create a fraction collector cluster.

You can use up to three fraction collectors for collection. A fourth fraction collector can optionally be added for recovery.

Note that this cluster is obsolete and available for backward compatibility only. For Agilent Infinity II modules, use the FCC option from the Fraction Collector Configuration dialog box instead.

2D-LC Cluster

Select to create a cluster for 2D-LC.

When you select 2D-LC Cluster, both pumps (1D and 2D) are selected in the Available Modules section and Create Cluster is unavailable. Deselect the pump that you will use in the first dimension (1D) to activate Create Cluster.

Online Sample Manager

Select to create a cluster comprising the G3167A/B Sampler and the Reactor Valve. Both modules are selected automatically by default; if there is more than one valve in the system, the one with the appropriate valve head is selected.

Supported Reactor Valve heads:

G3167A works only with 3-pos/6-port valve 800 bar (5067-6680).

G3167B works only with 3-pos/6-port bio valve 1300 bar (5320-0003).

When you select a cluster from the list, the available modules that can be included in the cluster are listed in the Available Modules section.

Available Modules

The Available Modules section shows all the modules that have been detected by autoconfiguration and can be used in the selected cluster. Mark the check boxes against the modules that you want to include in the cluster.

For a 2D-LC cluster, deselect the pump that you will use in the first dimension (1D).

When the cluster has been created, the individual modules in the list are replaced by the cluster. To de-cluster the cluster into its individual modules, right-click on the cluster in this section.

Create Cluster

Click to create the selected cluster type using the marked modules. The relevant configuration dialog box is displayed to allow you to configure the cluster.

  • If a G7158B Preparative Open-Bed Sampler/Collector is part of the cluster, it must appear first in the list. The sequence of modules in this list must be identical to the sequence of modules in the Preparative Sampler Configuration.

  • For 2D-LC, deselect the 1D pump to activate Create Cluster.
