Definition of Terms

Script — A script consists of the specific operations necessary to process one sample. The script operations repeat for each sample within a job. Scripts are designed for specific applications.

Script Arguments — Script arguments are the individual parameters within a script.

Method — A method defines how the samples are processed. The elements of a method are script, syringe, and parameter list.

Method Parameters — Method parameters are associated with script operations. User-assigned parameter values define how a processing operation performs. A parameter with a zero value disables a script operation. Script parameters are application specific.

Object — Objects are data structures describing the properties of physical modules. Certain modules (such as an Agitator) require several objects.

Tray Holder — A tray holder can hold one or more trays. Each tray holder has a reference position (X, Y, Z coordinates) defining its location.

Agitator — The agitator is a particular type of tray holder that heats and shakes up to 6 headspace vials at the same time.

Tray — A tray holds multiple samples. Trays are defined by designating the tray type and the tray holder. Tray names are used to identify the sample source within a PAL job.

Tray Type — A tray type defines the pattern and sampling sequence of sample locations within a tray. Standard tray types include trays that hold 1-, 2-, 10-, and 20-mL vials.
