To Create a New HS Method Based on a Specific Application

To create a new method based on a known application, use the built-in wizard. The wizard will apply changes to the currently-loaded method.

1. If desired, save the current method. The wizard changes the current method, so any unsaved changes will be lost.
2. Configure the HS for the new method. See To Configure the Headspace Sampler.
3. Open the HS method editor.
4. Select Method Development from the navigation tree.
5. Click Create method based on a specific application. The wizard dialog appears.
6. Select the sample's matrix type, Liquid or Solid.
7. Use the drop-down menu to select the sample vial size for the analysis.
8. Enter the amount of sample to be processed.
   • For liquid matrix samples, enter the volume of sample (in mL) in the sample vial from into the Sample Volume field.
   • For solid matrix samples, enter the total sample mass (in g) into the Sample Mass field.
9. For the Solvent, use the drop-down list to select the solvent used to prepare the sample.
   • If using no solvent, for example, for solid samples, select No Solvent.
   • If using a solvent not shown in the list, select Other Solvent. A Boiling Point field appears. Enter the solvent's boiling point, in °C.
   • A selected solvent's Boiling Point displays for reference.
10. In the Compound(s) of Interest section, enter the highest boiling point (in °C) found in the compounds of interest present in the sample.
11. Click Preview Changes and review the new and changed parameters.
12. If acceptable, click Accept Changes. The software will apply recommended settings to the current method. These settings represent reasonable starting values during method development. To return to the wizard, click Reject Changes. See Confirm Changes Dialog.
13. Review the method.
    • Change any parameter as needed.
14. Save the revised method with a new name (if desired).
