The high vacuum pump is not ready

Diffusion pump is on but has not had enough time to reach normal operating temperature

It normally takes the diffusion pump 10 - 15 minutes to reach its normal operating temperature. It may take slightly longer if:

  • The laboratory is cooler than normal

  • The fluid level in diffusion pump is especially high

  • The foreline pump is not working as well as normal

  • Column flow is higher than normal

Turbomolecular pump is on but has not had enough time to reach 80% of its normal operating speed

It normally takes the turbomolecular pump 5 - 10 minute to reach at least 80% of its normal operating speed. It may take slightly longer if:

  • The foreline pump is not working as well as normal

  • Column flow is higher than normal

Foreline pump is not working correctly

Replace the foreline pump or contact your Agilent Technologies service representative.

Level of fluid in the diffusion pump is too high

If the level of the fluid in the diffusion pump is too high, it can slow the pumpdown process or prevent the diffusion pump from reaching its normal operating temperature. Check the level of the fluid in the diffusion pump. Refer to the MSD maintenance documentation for instructions for checking the fluid level in the diffusion pump.

Diffusion pump stack is not aligned correctly

If the components of the stack in the diffusion pump are not correctly aligned, it can prevent the diffusion pump from reaching its normal operating temperature. The stack is not removed for normal maintenance so this should be fairly uncommon.
