Threshold (LC/MS)

Threshold determines how large a signal must be before it is reported.

Minimum Maximum Default Typical
1 9999 1 0 to 500

A lower threshold results in more mass peaks being detected. If the threshold is too low, some of the peaks reported may actually be noise. A higher threshold results in fewer peaks being detected. If the threshold is too high, small peaks may be missed.

Threshold is applied to profile data and centroided data in different ways. If profile data is being collected, all data points with abundances greater than the Threshold are reported. If centroided data is being collected, then peak detection is applied first. Then, only the peaks with abundances greater than the Threshold are reported.
