Copy and paste sequence lines to and from Excel

Create or update a sequence by copying lines from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Or, create a sequence in Acquisition and copy it to Excel. Regional settings (decimal separator) and language must be the same in both Excel and Acquisition.

Copy sequence lines from Excel to Acquisition

Single sequences or dual sequences created in Excel can be copied into the Acquisition sequence table to create a new sequence or to edit an existing sequence. The following table lists the supported columns that can be copied into Acquisition:

* Both the method path and name must be defined in the Excel spreadsheet.
If the Description contains empty lines, then these lines will be removed when copying in Acquisition.
Override Method Parameters are dependent on your instrument configuration.
The column header name must match the sample custom parameter name defined in the project settings.

To copy sequence lines from Excel into the Acquisition sequence table,

  1. Select all or multiple consecutive lines in Excel, as well as the column header line.
  2. In the Acquisition sequence table, right-click and select one of the following:
    • Insert copied line(s) from clipboard above to insert the lines above the selected line in the sequence table.
    • Insert copied line(s) from clipboard below to insert the lines below the selected line in the sequence table.

If the following errors exist in Excel, then columns, lines, or values may not be successfully copied into the sequence table:

  • If a column does not have a column header in Excel, that column is ignored and not copied into the sequence table.
  • If column header names do not match between Excel and Acquisition, then those columns are ignored and not copied into the sequence table.
  • If several columns have the same column header, then only the last occurrence value is copied into the sequence table.
  • When copying a dual sequence, if the number of lines is odd, then the last sequence line is duplicated.
  • If a parameter value is invalid, then it is replaced by the default value for that parameter.

Copy sequence lines from Acquisition to Excel

Single sequences or dual sequences created in Acquisition can be copied into an Excel spreadsheet. Only Inject sequence lines can be copied from the sequence table. If Wait or Report lines are selected, they are ignored and not copied into Excel.

To copy sequence lines from the sequence table into Excel,

  1. Select all or multiple lines (consecutive or non-consecutive) in the sequence table.
  2. Right-click in the table and select Copy line(s). All columns are copied even if hidden in the sequence table. The column header is automatically copied.
  3. In Excel, paste the lines into a spreadsheet by pressing Ctrl+V or by right-clicking and selecting Paste. The column order defined in the sequence table is kept when copying into Excel.
