Configure the 35900E interface

Proper operation of the 35900E requires that DIP switches 3, 4, 5, and 6 on the back of the 35900E must be in the down position.

The procedure below describes how to configure a 35900E. You can configure the 35900E to provide its channel A and channel B resources to one instrument, or you can configure a single 35900E device in the data system (using the same IP address) as two instruments and assign channel A resources to one instrument and its channel B resources to the other instrument.

  1. If the instrument is not already available in the Control Panel, add it and select Configure Instrument. Refer to the data system help for details.
  2. Enter a name for this 35900E interface in the Device Name field.
  3. Set the IP address. See your LAN administrator for help in assigning IP addresses. The 35900 requires a Bootp server to assign it an IP address.
    1. Enter the instrument IP address in the IP Address field.
    2. Click Get Serial Number and Firmware to connect to the instrument. Upon successful connection, the instrument serial number and firmware revision appear in the appropriate fields. If a communication error occurs, check that the 35900E is connected to the LAN and that it received an IP address from a BootP server.
  4. Select the appropriate External Start/Stop option to define the synchronization at run time between the 35900E, external devices, and the data system. See 35900E Interface Configuration for more details.
  5. Configure how the 35900 front panel buttons will function when pressed. See 35900E Interface Configuration for more details. The settings apply to both channels.
  6. Select Use this Channel to assign Channel A, Channel B, or both channels to the interface assigned to this instrument.
  7. Enter a name in the Channel name field for each activated channel. This name identifies the attached signal in the data system and reports.
  8. Enter units and a conversion multiplier in the Y-Axis Units and the Y-Axis Multiplier fields for each activated channel. See Y-Axis Multiplier fields in 35900E Instrument Configuration for more details. Note that the Y-Axis Units field is a label for convenience—it does not change data.
  9. Click Events to display the Event Configuration Display dialog. For each pin assigned to an event, select the check box and enter the required descriptive labels for the events high and low states. These labels display in the drop-down list used for assigning events in the method’s event table.
  10. Click OK when done.
