Overview

Sample Scheduler for OpenLab is an application intended to improve the productivity of the chromatographic analysis in the laboratory by fully automating the analysis. It is a powerful interface between any front-end platform, for example a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), that sends analysis orders, and the OpenLab CDS solution that performs and processes the analysis.

Version 2.8 of Sample Scheduler for OpenLab is compatible with CDS Client/Server System using Content Management.

The Sample Scheduler allows users to work with a lab wide worklist across instruments. It polls the LIMS for new incoming analysis requests. If the LIMS is configured to generate analysis requests containing all the information required by OpenLab CDS no user interaction or only minimal user interaction is required to start the analysis. The Sample Scheduler queues the scheduled analysis as soon as the instrument is available.

With the Sample Scheduler in place, you do not need to interact with the CDS client at all. You use the Scheduler client to direct the samples to the assigned instrument, follow the analysis state progression, or edit the analysis parameters.

Sample Scheduler for OpenLab provides an easy way to build automation worklists and pseudo-sequences at the laboratory level across instruments, routing samples from a single screen to assigned instruments and additionally display the results of the CDS/Analysis.

The Scheduler works in a Client/Server configuration. It communicates with OpenLab CDS via the Shared Services. This way, the Scheduler can make use of the OpenLab configuration in terms of users, projects, and instruments. Specific Sample Scheduler privileges are available in the Control Panel.

The web interface of the Sample Scheduler is an application that gives you an overview of the workload of your chromatographic analyses. You can view and edit analyses via a simple web browser. The officially supported languages of Sample Scheduler web interface are Chinese, English, and Japanese. Sample Scheduler web interface automatically recognizes the language of your browser. If it does not support your language, it uses either a related language (for example, it uses zh instead of the more traditional zh-TW) or English.

To get familiar with the Sample Scheduler web interface, see Getting started.

The requirements for .NET, .NET Core, web browsers, and antivirus software are defined by OpenLab CDS. For details, refer to OpenLab CDS Requirements.

Sample Scheduler supports the following web browsers in addition:

  • Safari iOS version 15

  • Safari Mac OS version 15

Several Scheduler installation configurations are supported. To learn more about supported configurations, please refer to the Sample Scheduler for OpenLab Installation & Configuration Guide.

If an analysis is scheduled in the Sample Scheduler, do NOT start it manually in OpenLab CDS or directly on the instrument. The analysis would then be added to the CDS Run Queue, which is not managed by the Sample Scheduler.
